Dungeon Crawl Classics

Titan Quest

A quite beautiful looking top down A-RPG in the glorious form of Titan Quest enters our Dungeon selection now. Still a looker today which belies it's 2006 release - features a vast open world to explore, and complete with all the usual atmosphere abundant locations.

DC Feast

With a solid, evolving plot and following the usual addictive battle, loot, upgrade gameplay aspects. Titan Quest is a favourite Gamer Journals dungeon crawling feast. Currently a tenner over on Steam and well worth the invest.

Titan Quest - £9.99

Journals 80%

Dungeon Keeper - Intro Music

Downloaded the genius, timeless Dungeon Keeper from GOG for many moons ago for pennies! And to compliment that marvellous transaction - here's the games superb synthy rocky intro score - featuring some crackin' digital guitar fx and sample voice chords. This is up there with the very best gaming kick offs! Appropriate - Because this is also one of the very best games I've ever played.

Sacred Gold

Sacred Gold takes the simple top down action RPG 'freeroam' premise from Diablo 2 and adds in a little visual glamour - well it was glamorous back in 04 on release! Unfortunately we found it a rather uninspiring, disappointing experience. Bizarrely average frame rate, criminally shallow ambient audio, unintuitive gameplay and frankly just plain old charmless. It looks decent enough and there's fine tune options aplenty. Plus a useful built in tutorial is included for the novice adventurer. But nah, just couldn't bag the feel nor that key A-RPG atmosphere. In fact, we're not sure it's got any!

Metacritic - 74%

Journals 65%

Steam Powered

War for the Overworld

After a low key somewhat technically ropey release, Dungeon Keeper wannabe War for the Overworld has been rigourously fine tuned since launch. Much credit to the development team for firstly tidying things up, and latterly providing plenty of additional content. Pleasing to note a dramatic increase in skirmish maps from the few miserly offerings at launch. My first Steam purchase since dusting down the PC again, and a more than worthy one.
